This bracelet was the first piece of jewelry I ever designed, back when I was still working in advertising. This was in Rio, before I was even dreaming of becoming a jewelry designer. I always struggled to find a piece of jewelry that was just how I wanted it, so I started having some of my ideas made for me. I “designed” the piece by drawing a line around my wrist. In this way, you could say that I accidentally became a jewelry designer without even realizing it. This bracelet is one of my favorite pieces – I still have my original one in yellow gold – and it makes me so happy to have my first design as part of my collection.

These are 2 fluid lines. Their subtle movements are like being in the water and letting your body float in the gentle waves. Or it would be my idea of flying in the gentle wind (if I could, or like it happens sometimes in my dreams). It is the flow, that very nice state of mind you can reach through meditation or when doing something you truly love.

This single line with diamonds reminds me of the magic street paved with diamond pebbles that is mentioned in a famous Brazilian folk song (Ciranda) from my childhood. I still love to sing it: “If this street were mine/I would order it tiled/With diamond pebbles/Just to see my loved one passing by”.

I designed these earrings when I was just starting out, taking a jewelry design course at GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, in New York. The design came to me after many attempts to bring four lines together with both balance and movement. At the time, my teacher didn’t think they would work as earrings. But I loved what I had created, and so when I finished that class, I found a way to have them made. And guess what? They worked. I was so proud that I went right back to my teacher to show her. She looked at me with a smile and congratulated me for following my instincts. She was proud of me for believing in myself, and I was too. Years later, these earrings have become one of my signature pieces and a best seller. I wear my pair almost every day.

This piece is my love letter to Rio de Janeiro, the place I called home for seventeen years of my life. Rio still makes my heart beat with joy and comfort when I am back on its soil. This special ring represents a small effort to express my gratitude and love for all that Rio has taught me, for the ways that it has inspired me, transformed me. In Rio I have amazing friends that bring me love, support, and warmth. I might have to make an entire collection about Rio one day, but for now, I offer this beautiful ring.

I wish I knew why I designed these lines the way they are. It came to me after many attempts of finding the perfect balance and movement of 4 lines crossing each other. I have designed these earrings when I was still taking my Jewelry Design Course at GIA, New York. At that time, my teacher did not think they would be good enough for a school project I had to present. She thought they might do not work so well. So, one of the first things I did, after finishing school, was to have them made. In my first version, only one line had diamonds (the others were just metal). I was proud to go back and show them to my teacher: “see, they work”, I said. She looked at me with a smile: “ good for you for sticking with your guts”, she was pleased. And I was too. They have become one of my signature pieces and a best seller. I personally wear mine basically every day. This is the same design in black diamonds.

With these earrings I imagined my grandmother, Thereza, at work, embroidering a simple flower (or a leaf in the fall) as she used to do with perfection. The thread that lingers —as if she might pick the work back up again — brings some charm and whimsy to these simple earrings.
